Melissa Humes PHRMelissa brings to Tompkins Consulting Companies over 11 years of direct nonprofit experience, through direct program services and senior level administration, including HR and operations. Through her nonprofit experience, she is able to help organizations incorporate into the mission human resource, finance, operations, and community and board relations. As Associate Director of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon and Southwest Washington, Melissa oversaw the organization’s two core programs (1) management of the two houses in Portland supporting families with children receiving care from either Emanuel or Doernbecher children’s hospitals; and (2) the Outreach/Grant program, focused on partnering with other non-profit organizations to provide funding for children’s immunizations and dental care. Additionally, she was responsible for leading HR initiatives (including facilitating training sessions at the national Ronald McDonald House Charities annual training and development conference that focused on human resource management within the environs of RMHC); finance; and liaison responsibilities with the Board of Directors and various committee members. As a consultant with Tompkins HR Group, Inc., Melissa has played a key role in supporting organizational strategic goals and objectives for nonprofit and for-profit organizations alike. Melissa has helped guide management activities within organizations to maximize the strategic use of human resources and mitigate risk in functional areas such as employee performance management, compensation, personnel policies and compliance. In addition to guiding management activities, Melissa also develops and facilitates training opportunities that incorporate key HR business strategies into learning objectives for supervisors, employees and board members. Melissa facilitates training sessions for clients that cover a broad range of subject matter from compliance issues such as harassment / sexual harassment to leadership development such as coaching and team building. Financial Stewardship Resources, the Oregon Department of Agriculture and National Coalition for Sexual Assault are state and national groups that have utilized Melissa’s experience to incorporate essential elements of human resources into workshops focused on board diversification, social media, telecommuting, and leadership. Melissa graduated from Lewis and Clark College with a BS degree in psychology. She is an active member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) and maintains her designation of Professional Human Resources (PHR) through the HR Certification Institute.
